Raymarine AXIOM vs PLUS vs PRO

• COMPARISON •

Today, I take a detailed look at the differences between AXIOM, AXIOM+, and AXIOM PRO.

The Raymarine AXIOM Series Chartplotters are full networkable boat management systems with excellent built-in fishfinder-sonar and fast quad-core processors.

The features they all share are… Lighthouse 3 operating system, bright screens, excellent viewing angles, built-in GPS, excellent mapping options, WiFi, Bluetooth, and internal memory.

They all also have a 4-channel sonar that supports RealVision 3D, CHIRP DownVision, CHIRP SideVison, and a High-Frequency CHIRP Sonar.

They can easily connect to a range of other onboard systems like radar, instrumentation, autopilot, video cameras, thermal cameras, marine radio, and additional NMEA2000 and SeaTalkng compatible devices.

So… How are they different? Here are the basics.

The Raymarine AXIOM – is the first in the series introduced in February 2017. It launched with a 1200 nits brightness optically Bonded LCD all-glass touchscreen display, the new LightHouse 3 operating system, and a new quad-core processor.

The AXIOM also has a built-in 600-watt 4-channel sonar, 4 Gigs of internal memory, 1MicroSD card slot, and is available in 7″,9″, and 12″ sizes.

The Raymarine AXIOM PRO – Was introduced in July 2017 as the bigger brother to the AXIOM and is designed for the more serious offshore fisherman and professional captain.

They come in 9″, 12″, and 16″ screen sizes, sport a 1Kw 4 channel sonar, have 16 Gigs of internal memory, and 2 MicroSD card slots.

The 3 biggest differences are the use of a new (IPS) screen technology, which maximizes viewing angles and reduces blackouts when wearing polarized glasses, the new HybidTouch interface combining multi-touchscreen controls with rough weather keypad control, and the 1Kw sonar.

The Raymarine AXIOM+ – Is the next version in the AXIOM line Introduced in the summer of 2020 as an upgrade for the AXIOM and is also available in 7″, 9″, and 12″ display sizes.

Most of the features are the same. However, the AXIOM+ received some nice enhancements like a new HydroTough nano-coated display, a 25% brighter screen, more internal memory at 16Gigs, a faster GPS, and the processor has been enhanced some.

The new nano-coated display provides better impact resistance, repels water and oils, enables accurate touch control in all conditions, and has a higher resolution.

Here are 12 ways they are different:

So which do I choose?

AXIOM – If you don’t need the extra features of the AXIOM+, price is a factor, and you don’t need a 1Kw sounder or the 16″ screen of the AXIOM PRO then AXIOM is an excellent choice.

AXIOM+ – If, a faster more rugged display that will handle wet and oily better, is brighter, has a better viewing angle, includes 4 times more internal memory, and has a faster GPS fits the bill better,  then the AXIOM+ is the ticket.

AXIOM PRO – If you want the addition of a touchpad for those really rough days, looking for a more powerful sonar, or need a bigger 16″ screen then the AXIOM PRO is the way to go.
