Garmin ECHOMAP UHD 93sv vs Lowrance Elite-9 Ti²

by | Last updated: May 7, 2021

• COMPARISON •

How are they different?

The big differences are in the charts, sonar, and networking.

The small differences are in the dimensions, GPS speed, custom screen features, waypoint/route storage, media compatibility, planning software, and available APPS for mobile control.

Let’s dive into the details…

l

CHARTS and MAPPING

One of the major differences between the two units is the pre-loaded mapping. Both charts are very good but the Elite Ti2 offers more 3rd party options.

The UHD 93sv has LakeVü g3 inland maps plus Navionics data, which are advanced shallow freshwater fishing maps with excellent clarity and detail for more than 17,000 U.S. lakes.

LakeVü g3 features integrated Garmin and Navionics content with up to 1’ contours that provide a clearer view of the lake bottom layout.

Additional LakeVü g3 features include… Auto Guidance, Custom Depth Range Shading for target depths at a glance, and Shallow Water Shading to see shallow depths “user-defined” easily.

Garmin’s maps are proprietary meaning you cannot add third-party maps to Garmin.

The Elite-9 Ti² has a Built-in detailed U.S. background map but it supports more chart options.

Lowrance gives you the ability to use other charts like Lowrance Lake Insight, Lake Insight PRO, and HD, Insight Genesis.
Additional mapping options include third-party charts like Navionics Gold and HotMaps Premium, Fishing Hotspots PRO, and Jeppesen C-Map Max- N.

l

SONAR | FISHFINDER

Another big difference is in Sonar. The Elite-9 Ti2 sonar is excellent but the UHD 93sv offers a bit more.

The ECHOMAP UHD 93sv –  comes with a very powerful built-in fishfinder that includes CHIRP Traditional, ClearVü Down, and SideVü which is comparable to the Elite Ti2.

Where the UHD 93sv pulls ahead is with the added 1200kHz Ultra High Definition sonar channel and the support for Panoptix for live view.

The  UHD ClearVü and UHD SideVü supports 800/1200kHz and has a power output of 500W and is incredibly clear in depths less the 60′.

If you need more power, the ECHOMAP UHD supports adding Blackbox Sonar like Panoptix.

Another cool feature is the ability to record sonar to a MicroSD card and review it later in HomePort.

Addional specs include:

  • CHIRP Max depth in freshwater is about 2,300’ @ 77kHz
  • CHIRP Max depth in saltwater is about 1,100’@ 77kHz
  • ClearVü Down / SideVü to about 300′
  • UHD ClearVü / UHD SideVü best in less than 100′

The Elite-9 Ti2 comes with built-in CHIRP Traditional, DownScan/SideScan StructureScan sonar and includes Active Imaging with FishReveal.

CHIRP Traditional includes 500W of power, uses 50/83/200kHz (Broadband) frequencies, and is good to about 1000ft.

DownScan and SideScan StructureScan uses 455/800kHz
and is good to about 300ft.

Active Imaging combines CHIRP sonar, with SideScan and DownScan Imaging for quickly scanning fish-holding structure with excellent detail.

FishReveal combines DownScan imaging that is overlayed onto CHIRP Sonar. It gives you better target separation giving you the ability to distinguish between a single big fish and a school of bait.

l

NETWORKING

The networking capability for the ECHOMAP is quite a bit more expendable than the Elite Ti2 for sharing sonar.

ECHOMAP UHD 93sv Wired Networking – The UHD network sharing is done via Garmin Marine Network cable.  You can share sonar data, waypoints, routes and supplemental charts with other 7″ or 9″ ECHOMAP UHD or ECHOMAP Ultra units.

All sonar channels can be shared from any connected device including CHIRP, Downvu, Sidevu and choosing from any transducer.

Two units can be connected directly via the Panoptix network port or you can connect additional units using the Garmin Port Expander.

Elite-9 Ti² Wireless Networking – Wirelessly share sonar and charting between two displays, as well as sync waypoint data.

This is a major difference between the two models; sharing is limited to charts, waypoints, routes and 2D sonar.

SideScan, DownScan, StructureScan, FishReveal cannot be shared.

l

DIMENSIONS

The UHD 93sv unit is slightly wider than the Elite-9 Ti²; this may be a factor if your dash is really tight for space.

l

GPS ANTENNA

The UHD 93sv has a 5Hz GPS and the Elite-9 Ti² has a 10Hz GPS. The difference between the two is in the acquisition speed.

The 5Hz generally will query the Satellite 5 times per second and the 10Hz will query the satellite 10 times per second.

A 10Hz will lock onto the satellite slightly faster than a 5Hz on startup.

The difference between the two would not be noticeable on a GPS on a boat. This is something that would probably matter more on a Mach 1 airplane or ballistic missile. 🙂

l

SCREEN FEATURES

Both models have split-screen functions however the ECHOMAP UHD 93sv has a few more screen combinations.

The UHD 93sv offers 7 screen combinations and the Elite-9 Ti2 offers 4. The panel size on both is adjustable.

Just a small difference but a nice feature for customization.

l

WAYPOINTS & TRACKS

The UHD 93sv has more waypoint storage @ 5000 vs 3000 on the Elite-9 Ti² but the UHD has fewer tracks @ 50 vs 100.

Route capacity is the same @ 100.

l

OTHER

Media compatibility  – ECHOMAP UHD is compatible with Fusion-Link while the Elite Ti2 is compatible SonicHub2.

Planning software – Garmin uses Homeport and Lowrance uses Insight  Planner.

App Control – Garmin uses Active Captain while the Elite Ti2 uses LINK. Both are free in Android and Apple App Stores.

Price Range – Both units are in a similar price range, with a transducer, between $800.00 – $999.00 with the Elite-9 Ti2 on the less expensive side.

Garmin ECHOMAP UHD 93sv or Lowrance Elite-9 Ti2 Which one Should I Choose

ECHOMAP UHD 93sv or Lowrance Elite Ti2

Charts and mapping between these two units are pretty comparable.

The choice really lies in the networking and sonar fishfinding features; here the UHD 93sv wins with the added ultra high definition channel and the better networking sharability.

Both units have excellent fishfinder capability. If you don’t need UHD sonar or advanced network sharing that the ECHOMAP series offers, then the Elite Ti2 is a good choice.

Note: The Echomap Plus 93sv is actually a more direct comparison to the Elite-9 TI2 than the Echomap UHD 93sv.
