ECHOMAP UHD 94sv or GPSMAP 942xs

Key Differences:

The Garmin ECHOMAP UHD 94sv and the Garmin GPSMAP 942xs are both 9-inch chartplotter/sonar combos with a wide range of features, but they have several things that set them apart.

The UHD series is an excellent fishfinder/chartplotter system while the GPSMAP series is more of a full vessel management chartplotter with excellent fishfinder capabilities.

Here are the highlights:

Sonar:

  • The echomap UHD 94sv has more DownVü sonar frequency options than the 942xs, including 260/455/800/1000/1200 kHz @ 600W.
  • The 942xs only has 260/455/800 kHz. The echomap UHD 94sv also includes SideVü sonar, which the 942xs does not. But it has 1Kw of power.

Connectivity:

  • The echomap UHD 94sv does not have any video input ports, Bluetooth pairing, ANT+ connectivity, or Garmin Wi-Fi network support.
  • The 942xs has all of these features and lots of expandability.

Radar | GSD/GCV Sonar Support:

  • The 942xs has a few other features that the ECHOMAP UHD 94sv does not, including GLONASS and GALILEO GPS, a 10Hz built-in receiver, and support for GSD/GCV Black Box Sonar, Radar, AIS, and Built-in SailAssist Features.

The ECHOMAP UHD 94sv – Is an Excellent Fishfinder Chartplotter.

The GPSMAP  942xs – Is a full-featured MultiFuction Network Chartplotter with expandable fishfinder support—more of a complete boat management system.

Garmin 942xs vs Echomap UHD 94sv Which one do I Choose

Best Choice:

Excellent shallower water sonar performance or a high powered multi-function expandable Chartplotter?

Overall, I would say the Garmin ECHOMAP UHD 94sv is a good option for anglers who are looking for a good chartplotter/sonar combo with excellent sonar performance.

The Garmin GPSMAP 942xs is a better option for anglers who need a more advanced chartplotter/sonar combo with more expandability options and features like 1Kw sonar, radar capability, Bluetooth pairing, and ANT+ connectivity.

It’s much more of a boat management system.
